Baby Shower Decoration

I definitely reached ‘flow state’ for this events’ decoration- from planning the event, the color coordination and every minutiae of detail was well thought out and helped me to walk through my pregnancy like a piece of cake! Everyone loved the thoughtful details and fine touches making it so memorable. The shower was thrown of course by my family and my in-laws but they let me do all the decorations as I wanted it to have a particular ambiance! (ALL Photo credits to our niece Nina!)

My husband gets really frustrated when I get carried away by my decoration projects and he is justified. I do get super obsessed when I am in my flow state, I am so passionately carried away, it could drive another person watching quite crazy!  I do it anyway though because I cannot even help it!!

We had a dramatic moment in the evening prior to the event. I had compiled the gorgeous delicate long streamers prior at home to be carried to the venue with much detailed attention and color coordination. These would become decorative backdrops at the event site. We had to carry the delicate streamers into the car trunk which was much more difficult than compiling it in the first place. When I insisted that these were in fact ‘sturdy walls’ really annoyed him and I was almost in tears because he looked so very upset with me – it was quite a drama!! Now I can laugh thinking back to those moments but wasn’t at all funny then !!

Another amusing incident was my meeting with the cake decorator. I like rectilinearity and straight lines and I designed the shower cake to reflect that – I drew the whole cakes’ matrix for the cake decorator and brought to her the matrix drawing in a graph paper! She was quite a bit perplexed but she executed it to perfection!!!

Here is the gift box I delicately created for all the fine 40 some ladies invited to my event from work and family, friends! I wanted my shower gift to be cute and exquisite and to have a special touch from me. I adore pearls – pearls to me signify the beauty and strength of women – we are naturally strong and beautiful in each of our unique ways and we grow more beautiful nurtured with aging! This is why I love pearls – they are borne out of withering the nature and their beauty shines through over time! Since my shower theme was teddy bears – of course I had to put some bears inside the box. For each and every of my guest,  I selected what I thought would be their favorite pearl tone and of course the aqua blue and other blue shades were used to fill in the boxes! The god is in the details…….what a beautiful sight these presents were!

This was the sweets table !! Well pictures speak a thousand words – I selected all the desserts and treats and coordinated all their colors to match my aquamarine blue theme.
The cupcakes were designed by my sister-in-law and we had ordered the beautiful blue cupcake liners to display them.

This is the one of the cutest mini projects I worked on for this event – these blue shoes were all hand crafted by myself using styrofoam cups! We used it as mini appetizer holders for each of the guests! So adorable right? I was able to send them off to re-use for another shower since she was also having a boy!

I sculpted these chocolate teddy bears and used blue paper straws to insert them into mini marshmallow stands as holders! It was not only cute but so delicious!

Blue organza bows adorn each chair! The teddy bear center pieces were placed on top of decorative boxes made to look like they were holding the balloons! Worked out beautifully and only $15 spent per center-piece! In the backdrop are the delicate streamers or ‘sturdy walls’! Their tan, pale blue and white shades alternating with the metallic balloons lent a subtle and elegant touch to the room making it worth all the trouble getting it to the venue intact!!

The teddy-bear center pieces turned out more adorable than I had anticipated! There was some fight over who wanted those bears at the end!

Certainly this event was like a ‘Oh boy!’

The hand made chocolate bears

Beautifully decorated cupcakes and cookies and cake all in various shades of aquamarine blue that were a melody coming together ! And some tiny chocolate teddy bears non-conspicuously yet deliberately placed over the polka dot decorative liners……

Transparent balloons with golden polka dots – subtle, classy and elegant! The aqua balloons lend a touch of soothing color amidst the transparent and metallic tan and white ones.

Aren’t the polka dot balloons so beautifully classy? Hmmm, maybe still a little upset with me???? But liking the end result of it all coming together………

The cake matrix!!!!

Me at full blown 9 months with my lovely SIL, my mum and dad. My ornate silk and organza dress embroidered in gold thread with detailed artwork (chosen by my dear dad) is in my favorite shades of aqua and peach – in alignment with the gift box colors!! You see I love it when it all comes together perfectly!!! This eye for coordination is an innate ability I have as I was only 2.5 years old when I told one of my favorite aunts that in her bedroom the curtains were not well fitting with her bedset – she was taken aback but agreed it really wasn’t indeed!

The streamer backdrop was subtle and elegant- worth all the trouble getting it to the venue intact!!

The polka dot balloons had a special place in my heart…….

I definitely recommend pregnant women to be very busy with the projects that make them happy. I was so absorbed with my hobbies that I never felt even a second of discomfort and was always in such a positive state of mind despite being also a busy professional working full time all 9 months! Other than the pregnancy mask which made me several shades darker and definitely lent a healthy glow to all my features (this dusky glow goes away 😦 though after the birth due to the disappearance of hormones) I had felt no other changes and had a breeze of a happy time!!!!
